E-Shram Card will benefit about 38 crore workers of the unorganized sector. An e-Shram card will be issued to the worker who registers on this portal. With the help of this card, registered workers will be able to avail various social security schemes anywhere in the country, anytime. Apart from this, there is also the help of free accident insurance.
Unorganized sector workers including migrant workers, street vendors and domestic workers etc. apart from construction workers. The e-Shram card will have a 12-digit Universal Account Number i.e. UAN. This card will be valid everywhere in the country. The UAN number will be a permanent number i.e. once provided, it will remain unchanged for the worker. The e-Shram card is valid for a lifetime. Hence there is no need for its renewal.
Workers can regularly update their details, mobile number, current address etc. To keep your account active, it is necessary to update your account at least once a year. Workers can update their details by visiting the e-Shram portal or through CSC. The details that can be updated include mobile number, current address, occupation, educational qualification, type of skills, family details, etc.
Eligibility:
- The e-Shram card is only for workers in the unorganized sector. Hence, members of EPFO or ESIC will not be able to register on the e-Shram portal.
- Any worker who is a home-based worker, self-employed worker or salaried worker employed in the unorganized sector and is not a member of ESIC or EPFO is called an unorganized worker.
- There are no income criteria for registration on the e-Shram portal as an unorganized worker but the worker should not be an income tax payer.
- If a worker registered on the e-Shram portal becomes a victim of an accident, then an amount of Rs 2 lakh will be given in case of death or complete disability. At the same time, if the worker is partially disabled, then under this insurance scheme, he will be entitled to one lakh rupees.
Method of registration
- Any person between 16 and 59 years can register for this card. The worker can either register himself through the e-shram portal or can go to the Common Service Center (CSC). Registration is completely free.
- What documents will be required - For registration on the portal, workers will have to enter information like name, profession, address, educational qualification, skill. As soon as the Aadhaar number is entered for registration, all the information of the worker from the database there will automatically appear on the portal. The person will have to fill the remaining necessary information. The following documents are required for registration on the e-Shram portal by the worker
- Aadhaar number
- Mobile number linked to Aadhaar
- Bank account
- In case of death of the worker
In case of death of the registered worker, the person nominated by the worker or the family member has to file a claim on the e-Shram portal/CSC with the relevant documents. They can also contact their respective banks. After attaining the age of 60 years, the worker does not need to take any action. They will continue to receive their official benefits under the e-Shram project.
