On March 15, 2026, an E-Shram Card registration camp was successfully organized in the Binay Krishna Palli (Patiram Jot) area of the Matigara Block in Darjeeling District, under the leadership of Mr. Harendra Lohia, Chairman of the Darjeeling District Unorganized Workers and Employees Congress.
The primary objective of this camp was to bring workers from the unorganized sector under the ambit of social security and to connect them with various government schemes.
Workers from diverse fields—including daily wage laborers, construction workers, rickshaw and auto-rickshaw drivers, shop employees, domestic workers, vegetable vendors, and delivery personnel—participated enthusiastically in the camp and completed the process of obtaining their E-Shram Cards.
The event was inaugurated by Mr. Anirban Sarkar, State General Secretary (In-charge of North Bengal) of the West Bengal State Unorganized Workers and Employees Congress (KKC-WB).
Professor Moumita Mandal, President of the Darjeeling District Mahila Congress, played a pivotal role and took special initiatives to ensure the success of this event, particularly by ensuring high participation among women workers.
Also present at the event were leaders of the Darjeeling District Mahila Congress—including Sarthi Sarkar, Puja Mahato, and Shobha Ghosh Roy—as well as key functionaries of the Darjeeling District KKC, Ravi Paswan and Chandan Roy.
During today's camp, E-Shram Card registration was successfully completed for approximately 70 unorganized workers.
This initiative is expected to prove instrumental in enabling these workers to access the benefits of various government schemes, accident insurance, social security benefits, and potential pension facilities in the future.
