conducting a survey-based labour relations campaign

July 18, 2025 – As part of a state-wide labour outreach effort, the West Bengal Pradesh Unorganised Workers and Employees Congress is actively conducting a survey-based labour relations campaign aimed at understanding the real-life conditions of workers in the informal sector.

On this day, a focused interaction was carried out with workers engaged in the human hair processing industry under the Bhagwanpur Vidhan Sabha constituency in Purba Medinipur district. During this important engagement, workers shared detailed insights about their work patterns, nature of employment, earnings, and the multiple challenges they face in their daily lives. Their feedback was carefully documented, highlighting both the strengths and serious shortcomings of their working conditions.

One of the most concerning findings revealed through the survey is that a large section of these workers remain deprived of the benefits of welfare schemes introduced by the State and Central Governments. Whether due to lack of awareness, bureaucratic hurdles, or systemic neglect, these hardworking individuals have been left out of the social safety net they are rightfully entitled to.

This campaign is not merely an academic exercise but a mission to give voice to the voiceless, bring visibility to their struggles, and initiate meaningful policy dialogue. The West Bengal Pradesh Unorganised Workers and Employees Congress remains fully committed to advocating for the rights, dignity, and well-being of informal workers, and will continue working relentlessly to ensure that no worker is left behind.
